Morisoli Vineyard - Rutherford
Aiken Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon is from the Morisoli Vineyard in the heart of Napa Valley's historic Rutherford Bench. With its dusty, gravel-laden soils this famous growing region has been the source of some of Napa Valley's most sought-after Cabernets for decades. Joel has worked with Cabernet from the Rutherford Bench for over 30 years and chose the Morisoli Vineyard to provide fruit for his own wine knowing it produces stunning Cabernets with impeccable balance and concentration. The vineyard is meticulously farmed by Gary Morisoli whose family has owned and farmed this vineyard for over 100 years. Neighboring vineyards include Scarecrow, Joseph Phelps and Rubicon.
Silver Pines Vineyard – Sonoma Mountain
Silver Pines Vineyard is a tiny jewel that sits at nearly 1000 ft. elevation in the equally tiny Sonoma Mountain appellation. With thin soils, occasional morning fog and cool afternoon breezes through the Petaluma Gap, the fruit from Silver Pines ripens very slowly, accumulating flavor and color as it hangs on the vine.. At harvest, the berries are tiny and very concentrated producing Pinot Noir with deep color, complex flavors and excellent aging potential. Individual clones are fermented separately and blended prior to bottling to produce a wine of intrigue and complexity. The blend varies with each vintage but includes Pommard, UCD 23 and occasionally Dijon 115.
Oakville Ranch Vineyard – Oakville
This impeccably farmed vineyard sits high above the valley floor in the eastern hills above Oakville. At over 800 feet in elevation, this vineyard sees more hours of sunlight and lower daytime temperatures than valley floor vineyards because it is perched above the morning fog. As a result, the grapes have darker color due to the extra hours of sunlight and possess a refreshing acidity thanks to the cooler temperatures in the hills. Also, the thin red volcanic soil restricts the vines growth yielding extremely small clusters and berries resulting in very powerful but elegant wines.
Fiddlestix Vineyard – Sta. Rita Hills
Owned and farmed by Kathy Joseph of Fiddlehead Cellars, this vineyard is located in the cool rolling hills of the Santa Rita Hills appellation in Santa Barbara County. Just a few miles from the Pacific Ocean, the marine air moderates daytime temperatures and afternoon fog keeps the nights cool. The soil is well drained clay loam loaded with chert and Monterey shale. This unique terroir helps to produce wines of great intensity and flavor.
